For Friday, Sept 9, bring a log/ journal to class. We will reflect on Di Tri Berrese, and work on setting goals.
On Tuesday, your summer reading assignment is due, and we will be discussing My Ishmael in class. Please prepare yourself for discussion, have some ideas and questions ready that you would like to share with the class. Reflections on who you are as reader and writer are due.
For Thursday: read "Schooling: The Hidden Agenda."
For Monday: Gatto article, first two columns of a dialogic log entry.
Wed. - Read Introduction and Chapter 1 in Rewriting by Harris. Review Gatto too.
Friday- OK, so you made it through your first difficult day of thinking on your own.
you should have 2 pages of using Harris to "Come to Terms" with either Quinn, Gatto or Kohn.
Tues. 27th- Read "Literacy with an Attitude" -prepare to fold this essay into your own writing
Thur. 29th-while I am reading your "forwarding" with Finn which was your homework, you guys will be reading Friere - my personal favorite. We will be working with Friere in class on Monday.

For Friday, Oct. 7th, bring your log/journal, you will need to take notes on movie "Dangerous Minds." You will need to answer the following questions in you log 1. What type of school is this according to Finn, how do you know, give examples, 2. What type of teacher is Luanne Johnson according to Finn, Friere, Gatto, how do you know, give examples, 3. How does MHS compare to this school, where do you think we fall in the Finn model, Executive Elite, Affluent, Middle Class, Working class, why? Give examples, 4. What does the periphery think of Luanne and her class? Why do you think this is the case?
Essay "coming to terms" with Friere is due on Thursday Oct. 13th now. Writing assignment is on back of the Friere package.

Dec. 5th - Monday- Read to page 104 in Alchemist - Begin to Come to Terms - collect quotes - discussion items - think about author's purpose and aim for this book.
